The Power of Positivity in Sales

While an optimistic attitude is important in many careers, positivity takes on a whole new level of importance when you’re a sales professional. Keeping your mood elevated will help you make sales more easily and often. Here are some tips for keeping you happy and motivated as a salesperson!

Establish a Ritual for Improving Your Mood

An essential part of being an effective sales professional is being confident and feeling good about yourself. If you’re feeling grumpy or a little off your game, it’s important to take the necessary steps to flip your frown upside down. For some people, treating themselves to a delicious meal will be enough to turn their day around. For others, it can be a little more complicated and it might involve multiple steps.

Dig deep in your memory and try to think of a few activities that have helped to improve your mood in the past. If you’re looking for some inspiration, here are some examples:

  • Meditate for 15 minutes
  • Take a Netflix or YouTube break
  • Cuddle with your beloved pet
  • Go on a run or hit the gym
  • Curl up and take a cozy nap
  • Play your favorite video game
  • Spend time with your friends and/or family

Once you’ve written down a few tasks that spark joy, test them out the next time you have a bad day in the field. Work your way down the list and once you stumble upon the magic combination of mood-improving activities, start completing them every time you’re not feeling at your best. It’s amazing how much better your sales calls will go when you’re at the top of your game emotionally.

Surround Yourself With Positivity

A commonly-used and highly effective method of motivating yourself to land your next big sale is to read inspirational quotes. In many organizations, sales directors will utilize motivational quotes to pump up their teams, and get them ready for a productive, positive day. Sometimes simply hearing these quotes read out loud is enough to motivate a sales professional, but other times, a more creative approach is necessary. Try creating a computer or mobile phone background that features a quote that inspires you. You can use a free design program, such as Canva, to easily create stunning graphics. Having a meaningful quote prominently featured on your device will help the message sink in, and it will provide you mood boosts throughout the day.

Choose to Grow

In any career path, there are going to be tough, frustrating days. Your success will ultimately come down to the way that you deal with less-than-perfect days, and if you’re able to grow from adversity.
