COVID-19 Safety Tips: Videoconferences

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone’s worlds have been turned upside down. In the beginning, many of us were optimistic that this would be resolved in a matter of weeks or months, but as we’re nearing the end of the year, that doesn’t seem to be the case. In response, we have compiled a list of safety tips for the FlashBanc Sales Agents. Today, we are going to discuss the importance of videoconferences in this new virtual world.

Zoom is Your New Best Friend

During this time of social distancing, videoconferencing platforms have exploded in popularity. While there are tons of apps out there that allow you to communicate with people virtually, Zoom has definitely risen to the top in terms of popularity. We recommend using a platform like this for communicating with potential clients, current clients, and your co-workers.

When conducting a sales meeting via videoconference, it’s important to test your set-up around 10-15 minutes before the scheduled meeting. There are tons of videoconferencing apps, so make sure you have the one your prospect prefers downloaded. Once you have the app downloaded, it’s important to play around with the buttons and features to make sure you’re well-acquainted with it. You should also test your video quality and sound to make sure everything is working properly.

Additionally, it’s important to dress how you normally would for a sales meeting. You should treat this videoconference the same way you would an in-person meeting, so make sure you dress to impress! In addition to your clothing choices, you should make sure your backdrop is appropriate. The best backgrounds for videos include:

  • Neutral, non-distracting colors. Colors like beige, grey, white, and blue are good choices
  • Tidy composition of decor. Your paintings, furniture, and wall coverings communicate a lot about you as a person, so it’s important to tidy everything up and put your best (virtual) foot forward
  • Adequate lighting. Natural light is best, but artificial lighting is also fine as long as it isn’t too harsh

To keep your meeting on track, you should create an agenda. It’s important to create a plan for what you’re going to discuss and when you’re going to discuss it, so that you’re able to keep your potential client engaged. It’s easy for people to get distracted during a videoconference since there are tons of outside stimulants like phone notifications and email alerts. Additionally, you should have visuals ready to share during your meeting. Creating or simply downloading a few product visuals will allow you to pull them up quickly during your meeting. The screen-share option available on most videoconferencing platforms is extremely useful for keeping potential clients engaged. Humans are visual creatures, so showing eye-catching product advertisements will do a lot to seize their interest!
